"My name is Emily Bredonchel (Mrs B) and I am a Designated Safeguarding Lead at Grouville. I completed The Decider Life Skills online training course during Covid in 2020. Since then, we have worked hard to embed the skills and language into everyday life at our school. Today, Decider Skills are central to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all our children (and adults!).
Every day, we incorporate the skills into classroom wellbeing sessions, assemblies, and reminders using the Life Skills posters displayed in every classroom. Previously, we had a Decider Skills “Pupil Voice” group, where children took ownership of promoting and supporting the use of the skills across the school. The children created posters for each skill and actively encouraged peers to apply them in real-life situations.
Our Decider Skills displays are not only in classrooms but also in both our alternative learning spaces and the school foyer, welcoming everyone and offering guidance during some of the most "fizzy" moments.
During Covid, our SENCO and I delivered an online Decider Skills parent session, ensuring the skills were supported at home as well as at school. We actively encourage our pupils to teach the skills to siblings and family members, empowering them to become teachers themselves. We hope to deliver another parent session again in the near future.
Our Decider Skills journey even made it into The Grouville Gazette! our local parish magazine. The article celebrated how these skills have become part of everyday life at Grouville, I have attached the article below.
The Decider Life Skills have become a core part of our school culture, and we would be thrilled to receive a complete set of props to further enrich our hands-on learning. You can see more about our journey here: Grouville Decider Skills & Zones of Regulation "
